VY Canis Majoris (2013)
for Symphony Orchestra
In the Canis Major constellation resides one of the largest hypergiant stars ever discovered, VY Canis Majoris. Although, regardless of its sheer magnitude, the stellar body remains unseen to the naked eye due to its dim glow. By using data of radioactivity emitted from the surface of our very own star, I took inspiration from these surprisingly systematic patterns unveiled within the data in an attempt to sonically delineate the elusive, sinister nature of this giant.
